Assess Yourself

Self assessment is vital to your career planning process as informed decisions about your major and career cannot be made without first learning about yourself. Self assessment helps you to discover what is important to you - “your values”, what keeps you motivated and engaged – “your interests”, areas of strengths – “your skills”, and your personal preferences “your personality”. You will certainly discover some of these aspects as you engage in extra-curricular activities, internships and academic projects and to enhance and affirm your self understanding engage in self-assessment exercises.

How can the Career Center help me assess my interests, personality, values and skills?
No single assessment tool or resource alone will help you determine which career would be a good fit for you and the Career Center provides you with a combination of personalized services and self-assessment tools that you can take advantage of:

  • Access the online Career Planning System through your CareerWEB account. Use the free, self-directed assessment tool that allows you to review your results without interpretive assistance. A career advisor can assist you in clarifying your results during an individual advising session.
  • Register in group, self assessment workshops through your CareerWEB account | Events section | Workshops tab. Fee-based tools such as Myers Briggs Type Indicator or Strong Interest Inventory are used and certified trainers help you interpret your results at no cost to you. The cost of these tools is covered by AUC’s Career Center to help you deepen your self-awareness and gather more information about yourself.
